The GUV Urban Greening Project offers a dynamic opportunity for volunteers to contribute to environmental sustainability by planting native species, creating community gardens, and promoting environmental awareness in Lisbon, Portugal.

What to expect and how you’ll make an impact

By joining the Urban Greening Project in Lisbon, you’ll have the chance to work in a bustling urban environment, helping to create green spaces that benefit the community and the environment. The project focuses on urban sustainability, providing you with hands-on experience in environmental conservation.

Alongside the local staff, you will assist with daily tasks, such as:

• Planting native species and maintaining urban green spaces (gardening, landscaping, and watering);
• Creating and maintaining community gardens (planting, weeding, and harvesting);
• Promoting environmental awareness through community workshops and events;
• Assisting in the development of urban greening initiatives and sustainability plans;
• Conducting surveys and collecting data on urban biodiversity.

There is so much to learn here, and many initiatives to get involved in, you just need to ask!

When joining the program in winter, you should be prepared to experience milder temperatures typical of Lisbon, averaging between 50-65°F (10-18°C), and come equipped with layers and waterproof clothing. If you are planning to volunteer during summer, when temperatures range between 70-85ºF (21-29ºC), comfortable and light clothing is recommended.
