Want to contribute to the preservation of the stunning coastal regions of the Algarve? The GUV Coastal Conservation Effort offers a unique opportunity for volunteers to protect coastal ecosystems, promote sustainable practices, and preserve the natural beauty of the Algarve, Portugal.

What to expect and how you’ll make an impact

By joining the Coastal Conservation Effort in the Algarve, you’ll work in breathtaking coastal areas, helping to protect and restore marine and coastal environments. The project aims to preserve the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Algarve, providing you with the chance to engage in meaningful conservation work.

Alongside the local staff, you will assist with daily tasks, such as:

• Conducting beach cleanups and marine debris surveys (collecting and analyzing waste data);
• Participating in habitat restoration projects (planting native species, removing invasive plants, and restoring dunes);
• Assisting in marine wildlife monitoring and research (collecting data on marine species and habitats);
• Promoting sustainable practices through community outreach and education programs;
• Supporting local conservation initiatives and collaborating with environmental organizations.

There is so much to learn here, and many initiatives to get involved in, you just need to ask!

When joining the program in winter, you should be prepared to experience milder temperatures typical of the Algarve, averaging between 50-65°F (10-18°C), and come equipped with layers and waterproof clothing. If you are planning to volunteer during summer, when temperatures range between 70-85ºF (21-29ºC), comfortable and light clothing is recommended.
